My Favorite Place

People often ask me if I have a favorite place to visit or perform. The answer is Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburg.

Oakmont has hosted 8 US Opens and is a fabulous golf course. The head professional my friend Bob Ford is one of the main reasons why I like it so much. Bob is the best club pro in America and I always enjoy spending time with him. I also get to see him in the winter as he is also professional at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida. The facilities at Oakmont are fantastic, the food is wonderful and the members are among the friendliest anywhere. The atmosphere is fantastic and here is the best way I can describe it. I sat in my cart and ate my lunch behind the 18th green.

On the last day of The US Open, the pin is always back right on a small shelf and as I sat there I closed my eyes and could picture Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Johnny Miller holing out to win the championship. You just cannot simulate that kind of atmosphere any where else. We had a real nice show at Oakmont for The First Tee of Pittsburg.

We moved on from Oakmont to do the area wide youth clinic for TPC Jasna Polana in Princeton NJ. We perform at all TPC courses for their youth clinics and I have been doing this for The PGA TOUR for over 25 years. Every year over 10,000 youngsters come though this very worthwhile program. This year the show was moved over to Cadwalader Park in Trenton and 200 students from the Joyce Kilmer school walked across the street to see the show. LA Parker columnist from The Trentonian newspaper came out to see us as he has done on many occasions. He wrote his usual fine column and mentioned in the column it was the only time he has seen me miss a shot, which I did. It is a good thing he is not with us at every show because he would see a few more misses.
