Jelly Beans, a Rainout, and The Jersey Shore!

We arrived in San Francisco and drove to Fairfield, home of our long time partners Jelly Belly. The annual Jelly Belly Invitational raises over $120,000 for the one day event. Jelly Belly is a very community minded company and the funds raised will help local charities in the Sacramento area. CEO Herm Rowland and President Bob Simpson were great hosts and Stephanie Scott of the Marketing Dept did a fantastic job of running the event. The event features athletes from the Bay area and this year some past Olympians were present. We met three time Gold Medal winner Debbie Meyer who won her medals in swimming at The 1968 games in Mexico City. She let Bucky wear them for a memorable picture you can see on our Facebook page. We stayed on the par tree thirteenth hole all day in a "Beat the Pro event and I am happy to report we raised $2800 for the cause.

We then fly back to Washington DC, picked up the motorhome and headed to Charlotte. We had a great visit with The First tee of Charlotte at their beautiful facility at Revolution Park. Thanks to Ike Grainger and staff. Next stop Burton, Michigan for a show for The PGA of America. This was a fantastic event for the Boys and Girls Club and almost 800 youngsters came out, many were visiting a golf course for the first time. Thanks to Joe Simpson who did and awesome job getting the kids there and having many wonderful activities for them. If anyone wants to know how to conduct an event for young people contact Joe at Brookwood GC.
We visited The Newmar factory to have a few things checked on the Motorhome. Newmar has been a partner of ours for over 18 years. It is always great to see Dick Parks, Mathew Miller, Pam Culp and Jonas Gingerich as they are also great friends. Thanks to the service guys who put us back on the road safe and sound. If you are looking for the BEST Motorhome in the business think of Newmar.

Our next stop was 800 miles away in Cromwell Ct, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and our show has been re-scheduled for Sept 7. This show has a fantastic theme and is let by PGA and LPGA Professional Susie Whaley. The day is designed to grow the game for girls and last year about 800 young ladies attended. We are participating with Susie at 5 TPC courses this year and expect to be able to introduce golf to thousands of girls. It is a great idea and we are proud to participate. We spent a couple of days practicing and visiting with General Manager Bill Whaley, Susie's husband and a long time friend. Thanks guys, see you in September.

Our next stop was to the Jersey Shore my old stomping grounds for a few days to visit some friends and  to practice. Our hosts whenever we are in NJ are the Kilbrides of Colts Neck. They are old friends and are kind enough to let us park at their house where they have 50 amp hookup for the motorhome. Being able to plug in for electricity is a luxury for us. It is always great to visit with George and Norma, their son Rob and George's brother Harold. Thanks for everything!

Our next report will be from one of my all-time favorite places, Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburg, where our friend Bob Ford is head professional. Bob is the best club pro in America and one of the finest gentlemen you will ever meet. Oakmont has hosted 8 US Opens and  several other Major Championships and I love spending time there, what a treat!!
