A Very Busy July

After our visit home, we headed for Omaha and The US Senior Open. We had one of the largest crowds of the season with about 2000 spectators attending. The weather was extremely hot and humid but everything went well. Here's a secret, we filmed a segment for "In Play with Jimmy Roberts" to be shown in August on Golf Channel. If they play some footage from Omaha, you'll see just how hot it was. Stay tuned for the exact air date.

We then visited the First Tee Chapter in Salina, KS, we got to see my great buddy Ralph Terry and his wife Tanya. Ralph pitched for the NY Yankees in the Mickey, Whitey, Yogi era and won 23 games in 1962 and was MVP in the World Series. Also, he is one of the few athletes from other sports to play on the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour.

After Salina, we visited First Tee chapters in Manhattan KS, Cincinnati, Chicago, Lakewood NJ and a stop in East Canton OH. In East Canton, we saw our great friend Rene Powell at historic Clearview GC. Rene's father William Powell designed, built, and operated the facility and is the only African American to do this. He even seeded the course by hand ... WOW, what a story and what a gentleman he was! Rene and her brothers carry on Mr. Powell's legacy.

Jersey Mike's Subs provided delicious meals in Cincinnati, Chicago, and Lakewood. Jersey Mike's was started by my friend Peter Cancro when he bought a sub shop at age 17. He now has 700, a GREAT American success story! We also had a wonderful show at Golf House in Far Hills, NJ. If you ever get the chance visit The USGA Museum, it's AWESOME!

August is here and we are off to The PGA Championship. Take care!
